The climate varies from hot and humid in the foothills with heavy rainfall to cold and dry as one moves north wards to higher altitudes. October to March are the best months to visit this beautiful state.

Arunachal Pradesh is relatively a sparsely populated state with 26 indigenous tribes living here with numerous other sub-tribes all of whom inhabit over 3500 villages. Hospitable and friendly by nature the local populace of Arunachal bear Mongoloid features and sustain a rich cultural heritage. Each tribe has its own characteristic dialect and costumes with colour splashed fairs and festivals being a means to convey their beliefs. Getting There :

By Air :
Arunachal does not have an airport. However the nearest airport is only 67 Kms away at Lilabari in neighbouring Assam, 67 Kms from Itanagar, Arunachal's capital. Indian Airlines has three flights a week on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from Calcutta to Tezpur which is 216 kms from Itanagar. Pawan Hans also operates a helicopter service from Guwahati and the helipad at Naharlagun – Itanagar.

By Rail : The nearest Railway Station is at Harmuty 33 Kms from Itanagar. More convenient is alighting at the North Lakhimpur connected to major rail lines in the country and 60 Kms from Itanagar.

By Road : Itanagar is conveniently connected to Guwahati - 381 km; Shillong - 481 km; Kohima 350 Kms; Imphal 495 Kms; Aizawl 901 Kms and Agartala 980 Kms. Kolkata is 1539 Kms by road. You can get deluxe buses from Guwahati – 381 Kms.

Best Season: April to October.

Important :
An Inner Line Permit has to be procured by both International and Domestic travellers before entering Arunachal Pradesh. This permit can be obtained at the office of the Secretary, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar, and the Resident Commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh, Arunachal Bhavan, New Delhi. All Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Offices are also authorised to issue this permit. You require 2 photographs and a valid ID.
